its the last year of slavens contract , so what season would he need to warrant an extension ?
Im thinking top 8 , with maybe a good cup run and a few stand our performances.

A season similar to his first maybe

what you reckon

"Currently bilics record is worse than fatso".

In fairness, their records are fairly close, but Sam had a year in the Championship where the wins were Infinitly more winnable.

We were pne point and GD from 8th but a big gap from there to Everton in 7th. If we had dad both Carroll and Sakho availble all season I still don't think we would have made up that gap.

So 60+pts should be our target and a good cup run. I'd like to say we can make 6th-7th.

I think, given the players we have signed last week, we should be looking at the following:

Challenging for Europe League place proper (but minimum EL qualifying spot)

A good cup run (giving it a proper go and looking for quarters and semi's minimum)

Entertaining, positive and attacking football

Making the London Stadium a fortress

Getting Carroll off the payroll would do for me.

Re: its the last year of slavens contract , so what season would he need to warrant an extension ?
I think progress for us would be challenging for a Europa spot, a bit of a run in the cups and others have said a few youth players making progress. I think anything like last season and he'll be gone

I agree with comma, 60 points and a few kids coming through.

The position we finish in is less important than points total to demonstrate our progress.

I think some youth development into the first team should be taken into account. Currently bilics record is worse than fatso. To be fair it's only way we can progress as we cannot out spend most the teams above us.

I'd take 10th and see some of our youth players step up than 8th with no sign of them.

Let's see some kind of long term plan in action.

This last season was a good one, at the finish, to illustrate the difference between the top seven and the rest. Everton made 61 points and behind them nobody made fifty points the best being 46. We must not simply aim to be best of the rest where that can be achieved with just 46 points we need to be aiming at the sixty point mark and finishing with a positive goal difference. If that only gets us eighth place at least it represents some sort of competivity with the top seven.

We come 11th last season and had a whole list of problems. If we dont at least come in top half they will not be extending his contract.
The chairman will be telling him top half and a good go at the cups (fingers crossed we get a good draw for a change).
With all the good signings we have made then we must be at the very least be challenging for europe.
With spurs playing at wembley and in champs league and everton in europa league we have a genuine chance of getting top 7 and maybe even higher.
Barring any injuries of course.

Optimism Stubbo, that’s about it, as you have pointed out they are genuine contenders, and lets be honest here, a much bigger club than us in just about every way, Everton we can overtake, the other 6 it s big ask and going to be years away, if ever, of those 6, Spurs would undoubtedly be last, so 6th as I said it’s a “maybe”, granted a big maybe we could oust them and be a top 6 side each season.

Re: its the last year of slavens contract , so what season would he need to warrant an extension ?
Sydney, what makes you think we could leapfrog Spurs? They've shown they're genuine title contenders. Only losing Kane and Alli would derail them.

I think Liverpool remain the most likely of the top 6 to overhaul, but realistically we can't compete with any of the top 6 financially.

Until we are in a position to dramatically increase our spending in relation to other teams increasing theirs, we're basically battling Everton, Leicester, Stoke and Southampton for 7th.

Top 6 is a long way off, and anytime we get close will have been a stellar season.

Re: its the last year of slavens contract , so what season would he need to warrant an extension ?
I want to see progress, good football and things taking shape for the future, more consistency particularly at home, we could and SHOULD be finishing top 8 as I can only see 7 clubs who I would currently consider better than us, (Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs, Liverpool, ManU, Man City, Everton), and if its 8th with us playing well then im happy for Bilic to get another contract, could argue for Leicester to be 8th but for my money they have had there day in the sun and its back to mid/bottom half of the table for them, Southampton as well have had a good few seasons but keep losing there best players and decent managers, so cant see them big enough to progress any further.

By 2018/19 we need to be in a position were we can realistically look at leapfrogging Everton at least and maybe Spurs, be few years before we can be on par with the other 5 though

Vexed

I'd agree with that - we seemed to have very little game plan last season

Although trying to have any sort of plane it's the shit alwenbrought in last summer would be tough

seems we're all pretty close to what we regard as a good season , so maybe the board are thinking the same wat too.

ican see slav getting an extension , thing is all the inevtable speculation between xmas and end of season will only have a negative effect on performances

Re: its the last year of slavens contract , so what season would he need to warrant an extension ?
I'd be expecting a top ten but it really depends on how other teams invest so it's not fair to judge solely on league position.

I want to see a fucking plan. A system that we play, with players in their correct positions and improving as the season progresses. I want to see far fewer of his tactical blunders and that some of his signings actually work out well. I want to see some decent home form.

If he doesn't do the above, I'd get shot of him. I think this job is beyond him.

A lot also depends on how a lot of the top managers in Europe are doing by the turn of the year. If the 2bob's think there is the slightest chance of getting a top/elite manager. Then they will let Slav go.

Bilic will need top 8 to get a renewal

We should be ahead of everton we are turning over more money and should be using it better...

Sadly I don't think Slav is up to it, will be interesting to see how long it takes him to fall out with one of the new signings, still he's a very nice man.

Re: its the last year of slavens contract , so what season would he need to warrant an extension ?
I said 8th, but European football asap is a must if we are to attract the players who can take us to the promised next level.
We've already seen how hard it is to attract them last few windows even with Europa league on offer.

That's why I think the signings are only half baked. Get another decent striker and a top midfielder in to cover for injuries. Their net spending is still minimal, most of it is covered from players sold. Just got £5m for Rudolph and Adrian should attract more.

J.Riddle 5:10 Sat Jul 22
Re: its the last year of slavens contract , so what season would he need to warrant an extension ?
7th no excuses. Everton will not score like they did without Lukaku. Anything less should see a top manager brought in that will attract a higher level of players and take us to a higher level i.e. top 6.
